Analysis of photos for contents page.

This image was taken for the story of a new couple moving in together. This was a good image because you can see the connection between the models. This image has been taken inside a house in which to show their house they are moving into. However, the image background would probably have to be  changed as the dark wooden door on the left hand side stands out in the picture and takes our eyes of the models.

Positives;
- The image is clear and shows great detail.
- The positions of the models show a good connection between each other.
- The meaning is clearly shown.

Negatives;
- The male models left hand is on show it a fist shape. This ruins this picture so i would need to crop the hand out using photoshop.
- The costumes could have been chosen better to link the two images.
- The image should have been taken in a different part of the house.

This picture was taken for an idea of a story with a new band. Overall, the photo is very clear and gives a strong 'pop' feel. The lighting is very good as it gives a slight shadow to the models, outlining them. The clothing chosen could have been more thought about so the artists could be linked together as one. The female model is in the centre which makes her the first seen and the most important. She is standing confident and strong so the consumers will see her personality and looks through her body language.

Positives;
- The lighting highlights their faces and outlines the models.
- The arrangement of the models gives a stronger image.
- The image conveys a message that can be seen through the body language.

Negatives;
- The background doesn't convey the same message as the story line and body language.
- The second male model has his hand in his pocket which doesn't look professional.

This image acknowledges the scenery more and lets us know where the models are. This image was for the story of a new couple being spotted out. It is a clear image and a long shot. The models are quite back and irrelevant of the camera. They play the part well because you can see natural looks and a connection between the two.

Positives;
- The image has a good, strong background.
- A connection between the models is clearly shown with natural looks.
- The camera took a clear long shot.

Negatives;
- The image looks too unready.
- The models are too far away, its too hard to see their expressions.
- The female models cardigan has fallen down, however this could also be a positive as it could be the meaning that the 'artists' were unknown of the camera.

CONCLUSION

The image i have chosen to be the main one on my contents page is the second one of the band. I believe this will make the most impact in a pop magazine as it is strong and more interesting for my audience. It makes the readers want to know the new band.

Analysis of front cover images.

This picture was set in my garden and is a possibility to be my main image on the front. The image has various pros and cons but mainly pros.
Positives;
-          Not much editing will needed to be done.
-          Very easy to cut out as a plain background is used.
-          Strong facial expression.
Negatives;
-          The model is angled slightly away from the camera so it will not look strong on the page.
Editing; - In this picture, I would editing the gap in the fringe and I would also alter her complexion with the contrasting and hue tool on Photoshop; this will make her look healthier and fuller.

I really like this shot of this image because it is very different to usual as it is a mid-shot in which magazine front covers never usually have.
Positives;
-          The camera shot is different and you get to see the clothing to represent the artist.
-          The position of the model shows her personality as edgy yet like she’s got something to hide, like a story/secret to tell, which then links with the cover line.
-          The lighting hits her face effectively and a slight shadow outlines her body a bit.
Negatives;
-          Her hair is a bit messy so I would need to edit and clean that up a bit better.
-          The tights on the legs make her legs look fake and not very nice; this brings the image down quite a bit.
Editing;- The editing of the picture will include her hair, legs and complexion.

This is an example of a very bad picture. I have done this so I could see the differences from the other two pictures. The image is set in the same location and same background. This is because for my front cover I want an image that could easily be cut out.
Positives;
-          The image would easily be able to be cut out.
Negatives;
-          The image is blurry which means the focus wasn’t on so you cannot see the image clearly.
-          The model wasn’t ready as her eyes were shut and unprepared. This will impair the image because there would be no strong facial expression to draw attention in.
-          The image was taken of the models side which makes the image seem less professional and less strong.

CONCLUSION
i have decided to choose image 2 for the front cover because i think it stands out and looks as if the model is coming out of the image. The models face is strong and the body language tells a story with makes the picture exciting and attrating.

Initial double page spreads.

This is my first initial idea of my double page spread. On the right hand side i intended to have and image of my model standing up but also with a real strong and powerful position. The cover line will be very big along the bottom because it needs to stand out to show that it is the main story. I will place two small images, stylised as Polaroid pictures to make the images look effective. There will be an arrow to point towards the text to start everything off. A strap line will be straight after the arrow and will contain emotive and effective language that will make the reader want to read the rest of the story. In the middle of the text, a banner will pop out with a quote inside so that the reader will be attracted to. The only problem with this double page spread is that the text will have to be cut in half as the middle of the page bends.

This double page spread has been designed with very block ideas. The main image is very large and takes most of the first half. This is purely to attract the audience into the image. The image i would like would be one with a background so that the whole page can be covered. The cover line will cut across the image and into the text to make it stand out most and be seen. The main story is a middle block which will just consist of the text. A mini advertisement or competition could be placed at the bottom of the page where the readers will folllow onto after reading the article. Along the right hand side, there will be mini articles and images, making the page look more fuller and exciting.

For this double page spread the main image will be spread across the top, preferably an image with a good back ground or a lying down picture. The cover line will go across the image giving the cover line ability to blend in but also contrast with the image. A small text section will be positioned at the lower left hand corner. This is because this is the part where the least attention will be made. On the other side to the text will be the mini articles thats could associate with the main story.

CONCLUSION;

The double page spread i have chosen would be the first one as i think it has most potential to advertise and sell. There will be many techniques used in this double page spread.

Contents initial ideas.

This first contents page shows a variety of techniques due to busy, full and overpowering sections. I positioned the 'Contents' text at the top right hand side, out of the way. This is because i want all eyes on the page and the information on the page, not on the text, 'Contents.' There is a big image that stands out most as it is the largest part on the page. On the page i plan to have a mini story that will make the readers get interested straight away as soon as you open the magazine. On this contents page, i have added a 'from the editor' section which will make the reader more involved in the magazine as they will feel personalised. I plan to have an image going up the lower right hand side, interlocking with the above picture. I would like this picture to be striking and to really stand out, ideally it would be an image of a model standing up with a strong, eye catching facial expression. The lower left corner would be left to the page numbers and smaller images, which gives a link to the pages.

I did the opposite to the first contents page as i placed the text, 'contents,' in the centre of the page, very big and bold. This text also cuts the page into two which makes it easy to part sections. The top part of the magazine was made for the actual pages and previews into the magazine itself; it was mainly for advertisement into the magazine. The lower half contains a short story, which gives a little insight to the connections of the rest of the stories. There will be linking images and quotes to make the story really stand out and look appealing. At the bottom there is a banner of pictures and text quotes which give previews into the magazine. These are relevant because my audience will be able to link the image they are looking at to the page, so it is very easily accessible.

This is a very simple yet convenient page. The contents along the side is very different and stands out a lot. I have positioned a large image at the top right of the page which can easily draw the attention of the audience. There are many images to make the whole page look effective and gives previews to the insides. There is a little section from the editor in the centre. This would make the readers feel personalised and involved in the magazine.

CONCLUSION

I believe that the first contents page will have the most effect on the audience and will gain the most attention. It contains effective language and strong pictures. They layout shows a busy yet professional look and gives the reader a lot to take in.
